Product Description
The Function of the Fuel Injector in an Engine:
1. Fuel Pathway:
Starting from the fuel source, the fuel pump draws fuel from the tank and delivers it to the fuel line, which in turn transports the fuel to the fuel rail. The fuel rail maintains consistent fuel pressure across all cylinders thanks to the fuel pressure regulator. This regulator ensures that the fuel pressure supplied to each cylinder is the same.
Simultaneously, the pressure regulator also manages excess fuel by returning it to the fuel tank via the return line, maintaining a balanced pressure level within the fuel system.
2. Injector Operation:
One end of the fuel injector is connected to the fuel rail. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) sends signals to the injectors based on the engine's operational status, dictating when and how much fuel should be sprayed into the combustion chamber. The amount of fuel injected is determined by both the fuel pressure and the duration for which the injector is open (the pulse width).
The fuel pressure within the rail is regulated by the fuel pressure regulator, which adjusts the pressure according to the engine load (manifold vacuum). Consequently, the ECU controls the injection timing and duration. When more fuel is needed, the ECU will command a longer injection duration, and conversely, when less fuel is required, the injection duration will be shorter.
