Engine Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
The cylinder head cover gasket primarily ensures a tight seal between the cylinder block and cylinder head, preventing leaks of air and coolant. It is a critical but easily damaged component. Key points about the cylinder head gasket are as follows:
Also known as a cylinder liner gasket, it sits between the cylinder head and block, filling microscopic gaps to ensure proper sealing, preventing air and water jacket leaks, and maintaining combustion chamber integrity.
The gasket seals the top of the engine block and the bottom of the cylinder head. Its role is to prevent air, coolant, and oil from leaking as they flow between the block and the head. It withstands pressure from cylinder head bolts, the high temperature and pressure of combustion gases, as well as exposure to oil and coolant.
The gasket must have sufficient strength, as well as resistance to pressure, heat, and corrosion. It also needs some elasticity to compensate for surface roughness and unevenness, as well as for cylinder head deformation caused by gas forces during engine operation.
